Natalia Squires, the Laing Avenue orphan who topped her school at the grade six examinations, was among those who were yesterday honoured along with President David Granger. A release from the office of the president said that the idea for the presentations were born out of the President’s passion to educate the nation’s children. The donations were made by the members of the Central Executive Committee of the People’s National Congress, to coincide with the President’s 73 birthday. The presentations were made to three students who were successful at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment.
11-year old Kenneth Edwards from Riversview Village, topped the Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region, 12-year old Angelina Balgobin preformed remarkably in the Bath Settlement district and 11-year old Natalia Squires, who attended the St. Pius school in Middle Rd, LaPenitence, top her colleagues in every subject, securing a place at Queen’s College.
Each student was presented with a laptop computer, a printer, a voltage regulator and a $25,000 gift certificate which is redeemable at Austin’s Book Store.
