MAN ESCAPES AFTER DELIVERING CONCEAL MARIJUANA TO PRISON

The Guyana prison service has seen significant strides in averting the smuggling of marijuana, among other items into prisons. Over the weekend another illegal smuggling attempt was averted at the Lusignan prison. According to the Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels, the authorities at the Lusignan Prisons seized various quantity of marijuana among other items, following two separate incidents.
Samuels related that around 14:30hrs on Sunday, a man arrived at the prison checkpoint to deliver clothes and footwear for a prisoner to attend court today. Samuels said during a routine process to book the person delivering the items, the footwear appeared unusual. As the prison warden began inspecting items, the unknown man grabbed his identification card and ran away. The officers were unable to stop the fleeing man. The Prison Director reported that the prison officials are aware of the man’s description which they would pass on to the police.
Some 108 grams of marijuana and four packets of cigarettes were recovered from the foot wear. Also. in an earlier incident. prison officials while conducting checks outside the prison around 09:30hrs on Sunday morning, they observed a black bag in a drain. A quantity of marijuana, lighters and other items were found inside the bag.
In recent weeks the Guyana prison service has averted the smuggling of several illegal items into the prisons, however, all of the suspects have been able to escape the arms of the law.
