Over the weekend, a video of two men allegedly raping a teenage girl in Linden had gone viral on social media. The video eventually caught the attention of the police on Monday; and later that day, the Child Care and Protection Agency began to investigate the video as a suspected case of rape of a minor.
A source who knows the victim, claims that the reported victim in the video is a 15-year-old student. Thus far, no one can confirm when the incident occurred and who is responsible for posting the video. Since the release of the video; the identities of the alleged rapists have been widely shared. It is believed that one of the perpetrators is a re-migrant from island Antigua who is residing at Silver City, Linden.
For the year 2018, an upsurge of locally made pornography has caught the attention of the Guyana Police Force, prompting former Crime Chief Paul Williams to remind the public that the sharing of such images and videos is a crime. Especially, ones that depict underage schoolchildren. Just last week, the Customs and Anti-Narcotics Unit suspected a link between an increase in drug use amongst secondary school students and sex tapes featuring them. However, there is no evidence as yet to suggest that the current case has any link to drug use.

The body of one of the suspected perpetrators has been found near the Kitty Seawall, family members have confirmed. 41-year-old clothes vendor Sherwin Apple also called Yellow had reportedly ingested carbon tablets sometime this morning. While suicide is suspected, the police have not ruled out foul play. However, the status of the other man in the video has yet to be confirmed.
