On Thursday the 15th Guyana’s oldest veteran will celebrate his 100th birthday.
Benjamin Durant said he prayed to reach that milestone
The retired station master said that he never went to the war but he was trained and ready for war
He said that he has no regrets in life and that the army was a love of his
Durant as the oldest veteran, laid the first wreath at the special service to mark the 100th year of the signing of the armistices that secure the end of the 1st world war
Durant who has outlived all his 4 siblings says that he has about16 children that he can account for
He has grand and great grand too numerous to track and count
On Sunday last, Durant’s wife, one of his daughters and a few of his grands and great grands spent some time with him at the Veterans Legion office on Carifesta Avenue.
