Former Sugar Worker Found Dead In Trench

On Monday, the body 23-year-old Sunil Mangra was discovered floating in a trench along Stewartville, West Coast Demerara. Mangra, was said to be a former worker at Uitvlugt Sugar Estate. According to “D” Division Commander, Rishi Das, the body was found around 06:30hrs. It is suspected that the young man may have drowned. No marks of violence were seen on his body. A post mortem examination is expected to be conducted on Wednesday. The media was that Mangra was last seen by his mother on Saturday last according to her he was most likely drinking at the time. Investigations are ongoing.

Michael Stewart has been granted $400,000.00 bail after appearing in the Linden Magistrates Court for causing death by dangerous driving.

The court heard that on April 17, Stewart drove motorcar HC 6299 in a dangerous manner, causing the death of 37-year-old motorcyclist, Florenda Benjamin at Sir David Rose Avenue, Mackenzie.

Magistrate Clive Nurse ordered the accused to return to court on May 02.

He is also required to report to the Mackenzie Police Station every Friday until the completion of the matter.
