The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has reopened the Good Hope Bridge much, to the pleasure of commuters on the East Coast of Demerara. The bridge, which was under construction for almost three weeks, is expected to reduce traffic congestion on the East Coast Highway. Workers replaced the old steel bridge with a concrete one. According to project coordinator, Geoffrey Vaughn the Good Hope Bridge, along with the Annandale and Lusignan Bridges, should have been rehabilitated since last year, but there were concerns over the impact such construction would have on traffic. The contract for the $23.5 million project was awarded to BK International.
