A Police Subordinate Officer is currently being treated at the Mabaruma Hospital for self inflicted gun shot wounds he sustained while attempting to put an unlicensed firearm in his pants waist.
In press statement on Monday, the Guyana Police Force disclosed that the incident occurred at about 10:30 this morning in Whitewater Area, Barima-Waini (Region One).
The firearm, which was retrieved by an Army Lieutenant who was present at the time, had no serial number and five live rounds. A spent shell was also found. According to the GPF, the unnamed Subordinate Officer and a Constable are members of a joint Police Army patrol presence in the area.
Arrangements are being made for a Senior Detective from the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters in Georgetown, to be dispatched to the area and commence an investigation.
