In an effort to ensure that persons better understand Mental Health issues and decrease stigma associated with the illness, the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph company (GTT) held its first ever Mental awareness campaign, titled, “4 minds and Body”. Over forty of the company’s employees took part in the venture, at their Headquarters on Brickdam.
Studies suggest that one in four people are affected by mental health around the world. Mental health can affect anyone as it includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, how we relate to others, and how we make choices.
The course also dealt with how well we understand the signs and causes of the disease and how to cope with someone who is affected by Mental Health. As part of the training, the GTT employees were assigned to various group discussions about the topic.

Gtt plans to take the campaign beyond the workplace and sensitize the public. There are more than 200 classified forms of mental illness. Some of the more common disorders are depression, bipolar disorder, dementia, schizophrenia and anxiety disorders.
