Guyana has some of the highest domestic violence and suicide rates in the world.
With this in mind, The Caribbean Voice with a partnership with Voices Against Violence has launched their 3rd
Annual Anti-Violence /Anti-Suicide Vigil which is slated for September 9 to commemorate World Suicide
Day on 10th September 2018
The Vigil is occurring under the theme “Create Awareness”. However the Minister of Social
Cohesion, Dr. George Norton, has agreed to be the patron of ‘Caribbean Voice,’ an organization
preparing to execute an anti-suicide/anti-violence campaign.
Dr. Norton also called on persons and various civic groups to join forces with Caribbean Voice to end
Suicide and Domestic Violence.
Education and Training Director of The Caribbean Voice Ms. Leslyn Holder said that the group has
been doing the worldwide capacity building for Suicide Prevention and Domestic Violence.
The current Miss World Guyana, Ms. Ambika Ramraj, is also the spokesperson of The Caribbean Voice. She was also
at the launching. Ms. Ramraj noted that her platform is base on Mental Issue. The young beauty also added
that she believes once Guyana can address Mental Health at the younger stage we can end
