Linden Hospital receives donation to fight COVID-19

The Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) today received a timely donation of medical supplies and equipment from the NGO Caring for Others.

Among the items donated were hand soaps, syringes, gowns, respirators, caps, surgical tape, gloves, amongst other items that will be utilised in the effort to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)

Presenting the items to the management of the hospital, was country representative Jermaine Figueira who noted that necessity 0f implementing preventative measures to ensure communities are not affected.

Figueira said the NGO has embarked on an aggressive education campaign to sensitise, in particular the younger demographic, on the importance of sanitation and social distancing.

“Caring for Others is here to assist and we are appealing to the residents of Linden, the residents of Region Ten and by extension Guyana, to treat this virus with the seriousness it needs to be treated with. It is a deadly disease. We are appealing to the residents to pay close attention to what is going on. Stay home and play your role,” he urged.

Receiving the items was Medical Superintendent (ag), Joseph London, who noted that the fight against COVID 19 is not a medical one but a community one. He commended the NGO for coming on board with a tangible contribution

The strongest weapon presently, he said is prevention and protection; through social distancing and sanitation. “If we can strengthen our prevention methods then we will be one of the communities where this would have its least effect and we can be an example to other communities,” he said.

Residents are urged to call the 24hr hotline if they experience any symptoms of the virus. The numbers are 444-6127 and 444-6137.
