The police have five men in custody in connection with the murder of moneychanger, Aaron Latchman, and his 18-year-old daughter, Arianna at their Better Hope, East Coast Demerara. The men are expected to be charged sometime this week.
On Thursday, the fifth suspect – a businessman – was held in North Ruimveldt, Georgetown. This fifth suspect is believed to be the ring leader and was previously freed of two murder charges.
According to reports the ring leader provided three men with the guns and ammunition that were used to kill the man and his daughter, on July 4.
In interrogation, the killers are believed to have told police that the mastermind lives at Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara. The police were told that after the hit job, the businessman took the killers to a house in Sophia where they were each paid $150,000.
It was also revealed that prime suspect has been the mastermind of several of the robberies committed on America Street moneychangers.
Among the suspects in police custody are a 44-year-old “Rastaman” of Agricola. He was caught with the car used during the robbery. Also, a 37-year-old vendor of Sophia called “Redman”. A 25-year-old labourer of Parika called “Marko”; and a 28-year-old of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
