The leader of the Opposition Bharrat Jadgeo has announced that the People’s Progressive Party will be choosing its Presidential Candidate before the local Government elections which is set for November 12, 2018.
According to Mr. Jagdeo, the Presidential Candidate will be elected by a secret ballot held by the Party’s Central Committee.
Mr. Jadgeo stated
“I urge all of the party members and those who are canvasing not to disparage anyone else. Because at the end of the day, what will happen, is not all of these people will rally around the person we chose and we move on to win the election”.
On June 26, 2018 the Caribbean Court of Justice struck down the High Court and Court of Appeal’s ruling in the presidential third term case and declared that Section 2 of the Constitution (Amendment) (No 4) Act of 2000 was a constitutional amendment to Article 90 of the Constitution of Guyana barring Mr. Bharrat Jadgeo a third term.
However Member of Parliament, Charles Ramson Jr. has publicly signaled his intentions for Presidential Candidacy for the People’s Progressive Party.
