Veteran Guyanese trade unionist Komal Chand died early this morning (Wednesday). Chand was 75 years old. According to information received, Chand was in Cuba for the past three weeks where he was receiving medical treatment. Chand served as a parliamentarian for Peoples Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) for over 20 years. Speaking through a statement released this morning, the PPP/C offered their condolences saying,
“… Comrade Komal Chand left a rich legacy of hard work, sacrifice and life-long commitment to the working people of Guyana. The party wishes to express its deepest condolences to his family, the trade union fraternity and the working people of Guyana to whom he showed immense devotion.”
Up to the time of his passing, he was the President of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union.
