On Thursday, the Guyana Police Force issued a statement regarding the arrest of a Route 42 minibus driver and his conductor, in connection with a video posted on Facebook.
“The Guyana Police Force notes with much concern, a disturbing video of an overloaded minibus with school children circulating on social media on June 6, 2018 and wishes to inform the general public that swift action by ranks of the Force has resulted in the driver and conductor of the vehicle BWW 7259 being arrested and charged with the following offences.
1. Overcrowded Front Seat
2. Breach of Insurance
3. Untidy Driver
4. Overloaded Minibus
5. Untidy Conductor
6. Unlicensed Conductor
The driver, Leon Jaggernaught, 38 of Laluni Highway and conductor Joshua Khan, 22 of 560 Golden Grove EBD will make their court appearance tomorrow at Court Two of the Providence Magistrates’ Court.
The article on Facebook indicated that 45 school children were in the minibus. However, both driver and conductor told Police that there were 24 children in the bus; but looking at the video, it seemed clear that the children were packed like sardines.”
